Helldivers 2’s November 3 update introduces Noxious Terminids and allows bug caves to appear in more planetary environments. The new strain makes escaping an encounter harder by combining quick attacks with poison and effects that prevent sprinting.
Arrowhead’s enemy briefing identifies two variants. Noxious Scavengers are fragile but fast, with repeated poisonous bites. Noxious Spewers use web projectiles to stop a target from sprinting before closing in with a stronger venomous bite. Their heads have medium armor; their exposed abdomens are unarmored.
An exposed weak point can still affect the squad
Destroying a Spewer’s abdomen produces a web blast that catches nearby enemies and Helldivers. Poison has its own HUD indicator: the lighter state damages health and obscures vision, while the heavier state increases damage over time and also removes sprinting. Stims treat the poison. Webbing and venom therefore create related movement problems, but they are distinct mechanics.
These details suggest a useful order of decisions during a crowded fight. Before firing at the exposed abdomen, check who is close enough to be caught when it bursts. Before treating a slowed teammate as merely low on health, consider whether they can still move out of the next attack. The dangerous moment can be the loss of an escape route before the health bar is nearly empty.
A squad can use that information without assuming one weapon solves the encounter. A player covering the smaller enemies and another watching the Spewer’s approach have different jobs. If everyone concentrates on the same large target, the quicker Scavengers still have an opportunity to reach the team. This is an interpretation of the announced enemy behaviors, not a tested optimal loadout.
Caves are expanding beyond their original setting
The November briefing says cave networks can occur across additional biomes, including deserts and tundras. It describes a chance for caves to appear, rather than guaranteeing one in every mission.
Underground Terminid missions date back to Into the Unjust, released in September 2025. That update introduced Hive World tunnels and the Hive Lung objective, with reduced support from the orbiting Super Destroyer underground. The new announcement expands where cave fighting may occur; it is not the first introduction of that environment.
That history matters when packing for a mission. A loadout chosen around long, open approaches may feel different when the route narrows into tunnels. Moving a short distance ahead can break a teammate’s line of sight even while the group remains physically close.
Positioning still includes friendly fire
Helldivers 2’s underlying combat also allows teammates and their equipment to hurt one another, as PlayStation’s gameplay overview explains. Grenades, automatic fire and defensive equipment need space around allies.
Against enemies that restrict movement, that gives squad spacing another purpose: leaving an ally somewhere to retreat and a clear lane for covering fire. The Noxious additions place pressure on that existing coordination, especially where a tunnel wall prevents simply running sideways away from trouble.
