God of War Laufey will launch for PlayStation 5 on May 20, 2027, replacing its February 16 date. Santa Monica Studio says the additional time will be used for finishing work on Faye’s adventure, which moves the series into the Everywhen, an afterlife shared by gods from different mythologies.

The studio’s message, reproduced in the delay announcement, does not identify a particular missing feature or a change in the announced platform. Its stated focus is completing and polishing the experience after the June reveal.

Faye’s story begins where her family’s journey starts

The official game page places Faye’s awakening after her death, as Kratos and Atreus begin the journey to scatter her ashes. In the Everywhen, she discovers that arrangements made to protect them are threatened and sets out to find a way home.

Her combat combines a new sword with Jotnar magic that can separate an opponent’s essence from its body. Sony describes a mixture of the close combat associated with the recent Norse games and the greater mobility of the earlier Greek adventures.

Two companions have distinct connections to the setting. Rue, an enchanted collection of ribbons, guards the sword’s power. Phranque, a cosmic cube, is concerned with protecting the Everywhen and its inhabitants. Their roles give Faye allies within an unfamiliar realm while her objective remains tied to her family.

The bow uses two levels of aiming

Santa Monica’s September combat breakdown, updated with the May date, details the Serpent Bow. Fully pressing the aim trigger enables precision shots and charging up to five arrows; a partial press provides a more mobile, close-range firing stance.

The studio describes targeting body parts to disrupt attacks or movement, and using volleys with Phranque’s ability to launch enemies into the air. Different arrow types and equippable Scales alter the bow’s capabilities. These are announced mechanics for the forthcoming game, not results from a review build.

The Collector Box does not include the game

The same updated post moves the Collector Box to May 20. Its US$149.99 package contains a light-up Faye statue, a 51-card Oracle Deck and a physical mini artbook, with the game sold separately. That makes it a different purchase from either software edition.

Sony’s US game page lists the Standard Edition at US$69.99 and Digital Deluxe at US$79.99. Deluxe adds the digital artbook and soundtrack, Dark Alchemy equipment and resources. The listed in-game items unlock through story progress.

Some descriptive text on the product page still contains February 16, but the dated November 4 correction on PlayStation Blog explicitly replaces it with May 20. Buyers comparing listings should use that updated date for the game and the Collector Box, while keeping the separate software and collectible contents in view.
