Gothic 1 Remake’s first feature update is available free on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive have added Photo Mode, the series’ Marvin cheat tools and new appearance options for the Nameless Hero, alongside changes to equipment and several quests.
The publisher’s announcement confirms the three platforms. The more detailed Steam changelog provides keyboard shortcuts and a list of fixes, which should be read as PC instructions rather than assumed controller combinations on consoles.
Photography, experimentation and appearance
On PC, Photo Mode can be opened from the pause menu or with the L key. It provides a dedicated way to frame the Colony, allowing the remake’s rebuilt environment to become the subject of a shot rather than merely the backdrop to a quest.
Marvin Mode exposes actions outside normal progression, including opening locks, teleporting and spawning items, characters or creatures. The Steam instructions say to press Escape, type MARVIN and press Escape again, then follow the displayed instructions. To deactivate it, press Escape and type 42.
Because this is an official cheat mode, it changes more than the difficulty of an enemy. It can change what exists in the world and where the protagonist is located. The announcement does not specify achievement behavior, so there is no basis here for promising that experimentation preserves an untouched completion record.
Haircuts and tattoos are tied to the Brotherhood and Swamp Camp rather than a new character-creation screen. The full update notes direct players to complete quests for Joru and Baal Namib to unlock the options. The update also lets the player wait while seated on a bench.
Changes beneath the headline features
Crafted weapons now have improved statistics, and a bug affecting the use of two identical rings has been addressed. The patch also corrects journal entries that failed to unlock and a shop issue that made Saturas sell the Water Mages Robe twice.
Several fixes concern unusual quest order. The Aaron Chest quest has a blocker fix, while focus-stone quests gain fallback behavior for players who already possess the relevant stone before starting the expected sequence. Urshak’s absence after triggering Find the Orc Shaman is another specifically named problem the update addresses.
Those details matter in the context of Gothic’s open-world design. The remake returns to a mining colony sealed by a magical barrier, where prisoners have taken control and rival factions compete. Players choose between three factions, develop abilities and explore a world whose inhabitants follow daily routines. Fixing alternate-order quest states supports that freedom more directly than a purely cosmetic update would.
The feature release is an update to the existing remake, not a separately purchased expansion. The accompanying Steam promotion was advertised through November 5; that dated sale should not be confused with the ongoing availability of the free features.
