World of Horror’s free As Below So Above update is available on Windows and macOS through Steam, GOG and itch.io. PS4 and Nintendo Switch players will receive the update in 2027, with no specific console date announced.
Publisher Ysbryd Games and developer panstasz describe version 1.2 as the game’s largest update, expanding its content by roughly 20 percent. That describes the developer’s overall content target, not a guarantee that an individual run takes 20 percent longer.

New threats change the circumstances of a run
The release notes introduce two Old God configurations. Ikt-Yosis, the First Nightmare, sleeps beneath the mountains and changes the world above through unusual weather. The War for Shiokawa places four cults and their summoned masters in conflict at the same time, giving the town multiple supernatural threats to contend with.
Three playable characters join the roster. The announcement names Kiriko, whose tarot readings are tied to the town’s fate, and Satoshi, a hiker familiar with the mountains. Further events, enemies, items, spells, curses and injuries broaden what can occur during an investigation.
World of Horror’s underlying structure combines turn-based fights with randomized encounters and difficult choices. Its mysteries take players through Shiokawa’s hospitals, schoolrooms, apartments and forests, often with multiple possible endings. Increasing the encounter pool affects that changing sequence of problems rather than simply adding a linear chapter after the existing ending.
A scenario goes back before the main story
Scenario Mode introduces self-contained stories set earlier in the game’s timeline. Forest of Fear / Tapes of Tragedy follows Makoto, a member of the school audiovisual club making a documentary about an old forest legend. It is connected to the events behind Freaky Feature of Found Footage, giving an existing mystery a more direct narrative background.
This structure differs from the main game’s selection of randomized investigations. The scenario establishes a particular starting situation and cast while still using the game’s events and choices. Returning players can therefore pursue a specific piece of Shiokawa’s history as well as begin another regular run.
Interface and modding work behind the expansion
The developer’s earlier version 1.2 breakdown described a streamlined interface, conversations that can trigger between investigations, and weather forecasts that let players consider when to tackle a harder mystery. It also outlined the new Mountains location and an improved achievement tracker. Those details explain the broader design work behind the update’s headline content increase.
The final release announcement confirms expanded Steam Workshop support, including custom enemies, events and mysteries. Additional controls cover custom interface elements and flags, allowing authors to shape how their mysteries behave. The earlier development plan also described compatibility with version 1.0 mod content and linked events.
The Workshop feature belongs to Steam. The console schedule confirms the free update is coming in 2027, but does not promise the same mod distribution system. Version 1.2 is available now on the two announced computer operating systems in the base game’s supported languages.
