Nintendo Switch 2 has reached 26.35 million hardware units worldwide as of September 30, 2026. Nintendo’s updated sales table also puts the original Switch at 157.20 million systems, with the two platforms continuing to contribute during the same reporting period.

During July through September, Switch 2 recorded 2.67 million hardware units and 15.04 million software units. The original Switch added 610,000 systems and 31.92 million games. These quarterly figures are separate from the lifetime totals; they do not mean Nintendo sold 26.35 million new consoles in three months.

The six-month picture

The November 5 earnings release covers April through September, a longer period than the latest quarter. Across those six months, Nintendo reports 6.49 million Switch 2 systems and 24.49 million Switch 2 games. Original Switch hardware reached 1.27 million units for the period, with 65.73 million software units.

Nintendo points to Star Fox, Splatoon Raiders and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave among the newer Switch 2 releases contributing to software sales. It also identifies continuing demand for previously released games. On the original Switch side, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and Rhythm Heaven Groove contributed alongside the existing catalogue.

The company explicitly notes that Switch software can also be played on Switch 2. Consequently, the older system’s software category cannot be treated as a count of purchases made only by people still using older hardware.

Mario Kart World leads the listed games

The first-party software table places Mario Kart World at 16.48 million units and Donkey Kong Bananza at 5.05 million. Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s Switch 2 Edition is listed at 4.04 million, with 13.31 million across the Switch and Switch 2 entries combined.

Splatoon Raiders stands at 2.42 million, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave at 1.34 million and Star Fox at 1.17 million. Those are cumulative figures to September 30, not figures for the latest quarter alone.

Updated November 6: Pokémon Pokopia’s listed 4.04 million covers Nintendo-published units outside Japan. The earlier version of this article did not make that regional limitation clear; it is not a complete worldwide total for the game.

How to read the totals

Nintendo includes downloadable games and copies bundled with hardware or other products in its software figures. It also assigns packaged Switch 2 Edition software to Switch 2, while downloadable versions of that category are counted under Switch. Those rules complicate a direct comparison of the two software columns.

Lifetime software totals now stand at 73.21 million for Switch 2 and 1,593.87 million for Switch. They describe consolidated unit sales, not active players or unique purchasers. The figures show the scale of Nintendo’s hardware and software business through September, while their reporting categories explain why the two generations’ audiences cannot be separated simply by reading the platform labels.
