Model Kit Studio opened a new Steam playtest on November 2, giving players until November 16 to try its model-building workshop. The test contains two mecha kits and the apartment around the workbench, ahead of Spooky Rabbits and Mythwright’s planned full release in 2027.

The November announcement identifies the included models as MeKS, a flying robotic sidekick, and Excavaclaw, an industrial machine intended for planetary and asteroid mining. Their fictional jobs provide the designs; the player’s activity is assembling and finishing the scale models.

Two kits, several stages of work

Players separate components, follow instructions and put each model together piece by piece. Brushes, airbrushes and decals then change its finish, while a small hand vacuum clears the leftover nubs from construction. Building and painting are distinct stages, so choosing a model does not lock every builder into the same final appearance.

That distinction is the useful part of a two-kit test. The number of included designs is limited, but each design gives players a way to examine the handling of parts, the clarity of instructions and the painting tools. It is those repeated interactions, rather than a large catalog of finished robots, that determine how the workshop feels to use.

The apartment offers breaks from the bench. Donut the cat, coffee preparation, plant watering and a jukebox are all named in the current test announcement. They establish the workshop as a place to move around, rather than only a construction interface.

The larger game has a story around the hobby

The main game’s store description begins with the player looking after the plants of their brother Alex, an experienced model builder away on a work trip. A delivered kit introduces the player to the tools and the studio. The broader story includes fellow enthusiasts Ysé, Noémie, Dante and Kenji.

Mythwright’s original reveal also outlines posing, a photo studio, diorama creation and sharing finished models with the community. These are plans for the wider game. The November announcement’s specific promise is the two-model playtest; it does not say that every story encounter or sharing feature from the full description is included in this build.

The robots are original designs created for Model Kit Studio. That gives the game its own fictional collection rather than advertising a license to build a particular existing anime franchise’s kits.

Joining the current test

The Steam page has a dedicated Join the Playtest control, which adds the test to the player’s library. The commercial game remains listed for 2027, with no exact release day. Joining this temporary build and wishlisting the eventual game are separate actions.

The store currently lists a Windows 10 minimum, 8 GB of RAM and 10 GB of available storage, alongside a GTX 1050 Ti or Radeon RX 570 class graphics requirement. The immediate opportunity is to build MeKS and Excavaclaw before the November 16 closing date.
